UK tax authorities sent 65,000 demand letters to suspected cryptocurrency tax evaders, more than double last year’s number

The UK tax authorities sent 65,000 reminder letters to individuals suspected of underpaying cryptocurrency taxes, a 134% increase. Starting in 2026, they will collect user information from exchanges under a cryptoasset reporting framework to strengthen cryptocurrency tax supervision.
