CoinFeed reported on March 17 that, according to Bloomberg, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan stated that he would not consider any letters or phone messages filed on behalf of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), his mother. SBF's mother, Barbara Fried, had contacted the court requesting an extension to file documents, citing her son's inability to use word processing and access files while incarcerated. Judge Kaplan noted that while he understood Barbara Fried was the defendant's mother and a former Stanford Law School professor, she had no right to file documents or seek relief in this case.
