US senators sent a letter to the SEC requesting an explanation of the former law enforcement chief's brief tenure and the decision to drop the encryption case.
CoinFeed reported on March 31 that, according to The Block, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins expressing concern over the departure of former law enforcement chief Margaret Ryan after only six months in office. Blumenthal pointed out that Ryan had disagreements with leadership regarding case handling, including the SEC's decision to drop charges against Tron founder Justin Sun during the Trump administration. As previously reported, Ryan had advocated for a deeper investigation into fraud allegations against those close to Trump, but this was opposed by Atkins and other high-ranking Republicans. In his letter, Blumenthal stated that Ryan's sudden departure raises many questions, especially against the backdrop of reports of leadership interference in law enforcement investigations of certain crypto companies.
