CoinFeed reported on April 18th that, according to Hong Kong media Sing Tao Daily, a gang rape case in Hong Kong has seen progress. Two mainland men were charged with sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman in a Mong Kok hotel in November 2025. They had been remanded in custody during the originally scheduled trial. The prosecution recently applied to withdraw the charges at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts and was granted permission. One of the defendants also had his costs approved. The magistrate ruled that while the two men admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim, it did not constitute "self-incrimination" and disagreed with the prosecution's objection. The prosecution stated that after further investigation and legal advice, they decided to withdraw the charges, and both defendants have been released. According to community reports, the two men are suspected to be business development personnel for ME (formerly the blockchain media platform MetaEra).
