The CFTC has sued the state of Wisconsin, escalating the conflict between federal and state-level forecast market regulations.
CoinFeed reported on April 29 that, according to The Block, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has filed a lawsuit in Wisconsin federal court against Governor Tony Evers, Attorney General Joshua Kaul, and Gaming Division Chief John Dillett. This is the fifth state the CFTC has sued in a month, following lawsuits against Illinois, Arizona, Connecticut, and New York. The CFTC reiterated its "exclusive jurisdiction" over prediction markets, arguing that Wisconsin's criminalization of federally regulated markets violates the federal regulatory system designed by Congress. Last week, Wisconsin filed lawsuits against Coinbase, Robinhood, Crypto.com, Polymarket, and Kalshi, alleging that their sports event contracts caused "public nuisance."
