Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau: Corruption methods are becoming more covert, and cryptocurrencies pose challenges to law enforcement.

CoinFeed reported on April 29th that, according to Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) pointed out that emerging technologies such as cryptocurrencies are posing greater challenges to law enforcement and investigations. A spokesperson for the CPIB stated at a press conference releasing its annual data that some bribery cases have begun using cryptocurrencies in recent years. These assets exist in virtual networks, making them more difficult to track and seize. Those involved often use multiple devices, increasing the difficulty of obtaining evidence. Furthermore, new technologies facilitate cross-border crimes, often requiring authorities to cooperate with overseas law enforcement agencies to piece together a complete chain of evidence. However, the CPIB emphasized that it has established a dedicated team responsible for related investigations and evidence collection, possessing the capability to track and analyze cryptocurrencies, and continuously improving its investigative methods to address evolving modus operandi. The authorities also noted that, against the backdrop of changing international circumstances, they will continue to monitor international cooperation in anti-corruption efforts.
