Nvidia's Jensen Huang stated that China should not have access to the most advanced chips, but the US should allow it to compete in China.
CoinFeed reported on May 5th, citing Nikkei Asia, that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that China "shouldn't have" the most advanced chips, but the US should allow Nvidia to compete in the Chinese market. He believes that restricting Nvidia's chip exports to China is tantamount to ceding the Chinese market to domestic technology companies. Huang stated that US export controls have reduced Nvidia's market share in China's AI accelerator market to "zero," while Chinese technology is maturing and may compete with US companies globally. He said that if the US wants to maintain its lead in AI, it should allow global developers to build on the US technology stack, rather than abandoning a crucial market by restricting exports. He also pointed out that China has a large number of AI researchers and developers, and if US companies cannot participate, China's domestic chip and software ecosystem will have room to grow.
