CoinFeed reported on May 8th that 23pds, Chief Information Security Officer of SlowMist, disclosed a privilege escalation vulnerability called Dirty Frag on Linux systems. Full details and exploit code have been made public. This vulnerability allows any local user with low privileges to directly gain root privileges on almost all mainstream Linux distributions. It is a deterministic logic vulnerability; the attack does not rely on complex race conditions, has an extremely high success rate, and does not cause kernel crashes, making it extremely dangerous. Linux users are advised to upgrade their systems immediately.
