British sprinter Chijindu Ujah arrested on suspicion of cryptocurrency fraud.
CoinFeed reported on May 9th that, according to Reuters, British sprinter and former world champion Chijindu Ujah, arrested on suspicion of cryptocurrency fraud, has been released on bail. The UK's Organized Crime Unit stated that Ujah was one of 10 people arrested, seven of whom were granted bail by a magistrate and will appear in court on May 28th. All are charged with conspiracy to commit fraud. Police stated that the suspects belong to an organized crime syndicate and are suspected of conducting telephone scams by impersonating police officers and cryptocurrency company personnel, tricking victims into revealing security information, including mnemonic phrases, in order to steal funds from their cryptocurrency wallets. One victim is said to have lost over £300,000 (approximately $410,000). Ujah previously received a 22-month ban for doping violations, which led to the cancellation of Great Britain's silver medal in the 4x100m relay at the Tokyo Olympics.
