The index briefly broke through 8000 points to reach a record high during the session before declining steadily. The technology sector saw significant capital outflows, with SK Hynix falling 7.66% and Samsung Electronics dropping 8.61%. The Nikkei 225 index closed down 1.99% at 61409.29 points. Both Japanese and South Korean currencies weakened, with the US dollar falling below the 1500 level against the South Korean won, and yields on Japanese and South Korean government bonds rising.
