Barclays: Generation Z's enthusiasm for speculative investing is a growing concern, and they predict the market is threatening other speculative investment instruments.
CoinFeed reported on May 16th, citing CNBC, that Barclays analysts pointed out that prediction markets are threatening other speculative investment tools and are already a formidable competitor to leveraged ETPs. Nearly one-third of Generation Z and the next generation of Millennials are involved in or considering participating in prediction markets. Barclays data shows that since the 2024 US presidential election, the monthly nominal trading volume of prediction platforms has been steadily increasing. Kalshi and Polymarket's nominal trading volume exceeded $24 billion in April, almost equivalent to the size of "oversubscription strategies" for indices and individual stocks, compared to only $5 billion a year ago. However, prediction markets still struggle to compete with retail flagship products like ODTEs, whose total trading volume in March reached a staggering $57 trillion.
