Polymarket and Kalshi still allow users to register and participate in trading despite the Indian government's lockdown.
CoinFeed reported on May 18th, citing Bloomberg, that despite warnings from India's Ministry of Technology, prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi are still providing services to Indian users. On April 25th, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sent a letter to VPN service providers, stating that users were accessing "illegal and prohibited prediction markets and online gambling platforms," and warning VPN service providers of legal consequences if they allowed such access. New laws aimed at curbing online gambling nationwide came into effect on May 1st. Kalshi stated that it has communicated with the Indian government and has not been instructed to cease operations; the platform continues to accept new users and conduct identity verification. Polymarket has not yet included India on its list of restricted countries.
