Boos erupt at US graduation ceremonies as anti-AI sentiment intensifies.
CoinFeed reported on May 21 that, according to The Paper, the sentiments held by some Americans regarding the development of artificial intelligence (AI) were evident during this year's graduation season. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt recently sparked controversy by publicly discussing AI in his commencement speech at the University of Arizona. Schmidt discussed the inclusive value of technology but also acknowledged that internet platforms amplify extreme emotions and worsen the public communication environment, posing significant negative risks. When he emphasized that the AI era is irreversible, it drew dissatisfaction from many students in the audience. At recent graduation ceremonies at several American universities, many speakers who expressed support for AI development were met with boos from students. On May 13, real estate executive Gloria Caulfield stated at the University of Central Florida's graduation ceremony that AI is "the next industrial revolution." This statement was immediately met with boos from arts and humanities graduates.
