Trump is willing to give "more time" for US-Iran negotiations.
CoinFeed reported on May 23 that, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal cited by Cailian Press, US President Trump convened a meeting of his national security team that day. He did not formally decide whether to launch a new military strike against Iran, but instead expressed his willingness to give diplomatic negotiations "more time." The Wall Street Journal, citing multiple US officials, reported that after being briefed on the relevant dialogues in Iran, Trump stated that he wanted to give diplomatic negotiations "more time," but reserved the option of military strike should negotiations break down. The report said that the mediators are pushing forward with diplomatic consultations, and the immediate priority is not to reach a formal US-Iran agreement, but rather to first establish a document similar to a memorandum of understanding to extend the ceasefire and set a framework for further negotiations. The two sides are currently deadlocked on which issues should be included in the negotiation framework and which should be left for later discussion.
