A man in Qingdao was sentenced to 10 years and 9 months in prison for stealing 107 BTC from an acquaintance.
On May 31, CoinFeed reported that, according to the Shandong Legal Daily's official WeChat account, the Licang District Procuratorate of Qingdao City reported a Bitcoin theft case. In 2024, the victim, Feng, entrusted Zhang to help register a virtual currency wallet based on trust, as he intended to convert his Bitcoin into cash. Zhang then obtained the wallet's mnemonic phrase. Subsequently, in the early morning, he logged into the wallet alone and transferred 107 Bitcoins in multiple transactions, equivalent to more than 22.54 million yuan at the market price that day. In December 2024, the Licang District Procuratorate filed a public prosecution against the defendant Zhang for theft, involving a particularly large amount. In April 2025, the Licang District Court issued a first-instance judgment, sentencing Zhang to 10 years and 9 months in prison for theft and fining him 100,000 yuan. After the defendant appealed, in November 2025, the Qingdao Intermediate People's Court ruled to dismiss the appeal and uphold the original judgment.
