CoinFeed reported on May 31 that, according to Bitcoin.com, Google software engineer Michele Spagnuolo has been charged with merchandise fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Authorities previously accused him of profiting from Polymarket contracts using confidential Google data. According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), prosecutors stated that he profited over $1.2 million through a Polymarket account named "AlphaRaccoon." The core of the case lies with Google's "2025 search results." Prosecutors allege that Spagnuolo obtained internal search ranking data labeled "Google Confidential" and used this data to trade contracts related to the most searched individuals and the top five most searched individuals in 2025.
