CoinFeed reported on June 1st that, according to Cailian Press, Intel plans to launch an AI chip by the end of this year that uses memory and cooling technology that is cheaper than similar products from Nvidia and AMD. Kevork Kechichian, who leads Intel's data center division, stated that the company is "starting from the basics." Its new "Crescent Island" graphics processor is designed to accelerate "inference" tasks (i.e., the stage where users make requests), rather than model training—an area dominated by Nvidia processors.
