The U.S. CFTC has sued New Mexico officials in an attempt to block the state from enacting a gambling law.
CoinFeed reported on June 13 that, according to The Block, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico against Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Attorney General Raúl Torrez, and other officials, attempting to block the implementation of gambling laws. In recent months, the CFTC has sued several states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Arizona, Connecticut, and New York, to maintain its jurisdiction over sports betting. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig has been trying to strengthen the agency's regulation of prediction markets. Last week, the agency also introduced a broad rulemaking proposal that would still allow general support for sports betting. Meanwhile, states claim jurisdiction over sports betting.
