Binance says it will stay in Europe, seeks alternative path for EU license
CoinFeed June 24 news, according to Reuters, crypto exchange Binance still plans to stay in the EU after failing to apply for a new MiCA license in Greece, and is looking for other countries as a licensing path. Binance's head of Europe and UK, Gillian Lynch, said, "Binance will not leave Europe," and if it cannot go through Greece, it will apply to other regulators. Its current operating license in Europe has only one week of validity left; if it does not obtain a new license, it needs to begin an orderly exit from the EU market. Sources say regulators in Ireland, Latvia, and Greece have reservations due to its past anti-money laundering penalties, complex corporate structure, and "risk-preferring" culture. Lynch stated the company has invested heavily in compliance and internal controls, hiring about 1,500 compliance personnel, and that pending issues related to this application have been resolved.
