Polish Police Arrest Suspects for SIM Card Hijacking to Steal Crypto Assets

They carried out SIM swapping attacks by hacking into the IT systems of partners cooperating with telecom operators, taking control of victims' phone numbers and hijacking their accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges to steal and launder funds. Police said the funds were dispersed and transferred through personal bank accounts domestically and abroad, international payment platforms, and multi-currency digital wallets, with the estimated amount involved reaching tens of millions of Polish zloty. The four have been detained pending trial, facing charges including participation in an organized criminal group, hacking theft, and money laundering, with a maximum sentence of up to 25 years. According to on-chain investigator ZachXBT, among those arrested is suspected to include Polish social engineering attacker Wojtek Kulisz, known by the alias 'Merry'.
