CoinFeed June 25 news, according to the Wall Street Journal, informed officials revealed that Iran estimates that charging fees for security, safety, and environmental services in the Strait of Hormuz could bring in $40 billion in annual revenue. If this idea is implemented, it would provide Tehran with cash flow and control that it did not have before the war. These officials said that the Iranian regime is drawing on models from around the world, including the Dardanelles Strait. In the Dardanelles, Turkey levies a tax called "gold francs" on ships traveling to and from the Aegean Sea to pay for passage through the international waterway. According to Iranian officials, in order to gain support, Tehran is promoting this idea to the wider Middle East region and even beyond. They stated that Iran hopes that its Persian Gulf neighbors will also join the agreement and share the revenue.
