U.S. CFTC and SEC Seek Public Comment on Unified Portfolio Margining Regime

CoinFeed June 26 news, according to the official website of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the U.S. CFTC and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) jointly released a document seeking public comment on further harmonization of the regulatory framework for portfolio margining and cross-margining of securities, security-based swaps, futures, swaps, and related positions. The two agencies aim to enhance risk management efficiency, reduce unnecessary market fragmentation, and strengthen customer protection through unification or enhanced coordination. The request for comment focuses on existing portfolio margining models and practices, customer protection, cross-margining and cross-product netting, capital and margin and collateral treatment, arrangements for clearing agencies and clearing organizations, as well as technical and operational implementation, etc. The comment period is 60 days after the document is published in the Federal Register.
