Anthropic Exposed for Embedding Invisible Routing Code in Claude Code to Screen Chinese Users
CoinFeed July 1 news, International Cyber Digest stated that Anthropic embedded hidden code similar to 'spyware' in Claude Code, which collects information from Chinese users and writes it into system prompts, including routing metadata such as timezone, proxy, and possibly associated AI Lab, without user awareness; the post accused embedding such data routing in coding agents with repository and command permissions as a 'serious breach of trust'. Anthropic employee Thariq replied that this was an experiment launched in March this year to prevent unauthorized resellers from abusing accounts and model distillation, and a stronger anti-abuse solution has now been adopted, with code merged to roll back the related logic, expected to be fully removed in the next version update.
