South African Revenue Service releases crypto asset tax guide, public comments due by August 31, 2026

CoinFeed July 5 news, according to Business Tech report, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) recently released the "Draft Guide on Crypto Asset Taxation", and public comments on the guide must be submitted by August 31, 2026. The guide covers the legal and tax nature of crypto assets, their various uses, and related income tax consequences (including donations). In addition, the guide provides guidance on compliance, record-keeping, advance tax payments, income tax returns, and disclosure obligations. To strengthen regulation of the digital economy, SARS has established a dedicated cryptocurrency income augmentation unit. Furthermore, in recent years SARS has also established other units to help it track and audit specific markets, and digital asset transactions are now a key focus.
