Chrome to update app store policy from August 1: prediction markets listed as regulated goods, strict control on extension data collection

CoinFeed reported on July 6, according to the Google Developers Blog, the Chrome Web Store (extension marketplace) updated its developer program policy, to be strictly enforced starting August 1, 2026. The new rules explicitly list prediction markets as regulated goods, prohibiting extensions that support real-money trading of prediction outcomes; user data collected by extensions must be used only for a single, pre-disclosed purpose and not for other uses; all data collection must be prominently disclosed to users, and if data processing methods change after installation, developers must proactively inform users; a new clause also prohibits extensions that bypass AI service security protections, usage restrictions, and other protective measures. Violating extensions may be forcibly removed or subject to other actions.
