CoinFeed July 11 news, according to The Block report, research released by the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance shows that about 31% of Ethereum node activity is concentrated in the United States, the EU (excluding the UK) accounts for about 39%, and the overall distribution shows a Western-centric trend. The research points out that nodes are concentrated in three hosting providers: Hetzner, AWS, and OVH. Once more than one-third of validators go offline simultaneously, Ethereum will stop block finalization. In 2022, the SEC argued for jurisdiction over Ethereum on the grounds that most nodes are in the US. The research also shows that Ethereum consumes about 7.9 GWh of electricity annually (roughly the electricity consumption of 2,000 UK households), a decrease of about 99.98% compared to before the Merge, and the sustainable energy usage rate exceeds 56%.
